High school students from the School of Engineering in Herzliya want to launch a nano satellite in 2008

The Education Line website states that the students are seeking assistance from high-tech companies to develop and launch the satellite

The students of Hendasaim High School-Herzliya are looking for a sponsor, who will help them finance the development and launch costs of the new tiny communication satellite (nano satellite) developed by the school's space major students. The satellite is intended for launch into space in 2008.

This week the prototype of the nano-satellite was launched, which was also recently presented as part of the Ilan Ramon Space Conference, and received many praises from NASA astronauts and space engineers who visited the conference. The small satellite, whose entire size is about 1/2 meter and weighs only about 10 kg, is intended to be sent next to a communication satellite and to perform tasks of control, photography and surveillance.

The nano satellite includes two tiny cameras, devices for testing the durability of various materials in the space environment, a communication and signal transmission system, a GPS position control system, and a direction control system. The satellite is planned to fly at an altitude of 800 km in a low orbit.

In the latest news, it was reported that the mayor of the city, Yael German, promised the students to contact the high-tech companies in the city to help with financing.

  1. Kudos to Dr. Anna Heller who initiated and ran this beautiful project for which she also won the Rekanti Lahanuch award.
Dr. Anna Heller (Dr. of Astrophysics) led a group of talented students, excited, guided, taught and encouraged the project participants who will never forget her contribution.
Dr. Heller whose students won year after year to reach the finals of a young scientists competition is worthy to serve as an example to others who can share their knowledge with the younger generation for the future of all of us.
