The Helsinki Committee approved an experiment with Brainsway's device for the treatment of addiction to drugs based on the cannabis plant (hashish and marijuana)

The approval for the clinical trial was given to Dr. Avraham Tsangan from the Weizmann Institute and Dr. Ziv Carmel from Shelvata Hospital

The Helsinki Committee (an institutional committee that discusses and approves research proposals for clinical trials in humans) gave its approval for the conduct of a clinical trial for the treatment and detoxification of drug addiction, derived from the cannabis plant (hashish and marijuana), using the Deep Transcranial Magnetic Simulation device of the public company Brainsway. This is a treatment whose results could provide a solution for drug addicts. The approval was given to the researchers - Dr. Avraham Tsangan from the Weizmann Institute and Dr. Ziv Carmel from the Shalvata Hospital.

In an experiment that will begin already during the month of March 2007, 60 patients suffering from drug addiction of the mentioned type will be tested, in combination with sham treatments (placebo) on half of the number of patients. According to the company, the duration of the trial will be approximately one and a half years.

This approval joins four previous approvals, which the public company Brainsway received, for clinical trials, as part of the development of various apps and applications of the Deep TMS system. As you may remember, Barnesway raised approximately NIS 33 million in January 2007 and joined as a new public company.

Uzi Sofer, CEO of Brainsway said: "The approval allows another important step forward, according to the company's development plan. It should be emphasized that so far the company has received approvals for experiments carried out in the treatment of diseases related to the nervous system - depression, manic depression, schizophrenia and addictions at the Shalva Hospital, and a combination of Deep TMS treatment and drugs at the Hadassah Hospital."

Dr. Avraham Tsangan from the Weizmann Institute stated: "Today, we are after two years of successful research in laboratory animals at the Weizmann Institute. The results of this study proved that through stimuli sent to the brain, it is possible to influence a decrease in craving, use and addiction to the drug. The parameters in the clinical trial in humans are similar. In the experiment in which we will use the Deep Transcranial Magnetic Simulation device, there will be sixty patients, 30 placebo and 30 in the Deep TMS device of different frequencies. The monitoring of the results of the treatment will be carried out in the form of urine tests and a psychiatric evaluation. "

The Brainsway company was founded in 2003 and is engaged in the research and development of a medical device for the non-invasive treatment of common brain function disorders. The device developed by the company is based on an electromagnetic coil with a unique structure that is connected to a rapidly changing electric current provider and creates an electric field through which it is possible to influence different areas deep in the brain by stimulating or suppressing nerves depending on the operating frequency (Deep Transcranial Magnetic Simulation, abbreviated TMS Deep).

  1. He probably won't see it, but, Mr. Shay, I don't know people addicted to marijuana, natural and kosher as it is the species of the plant, and I'm not talking about hash dipped in adolen,
This is just nonsense, there is no physical addiction to marijuana in its natural form period.
Invest more in helping cocaine and heroin addicts who were willing to do anything for a dose and just ask a hashish or weed user once what he was willing to do for drug use and you will see the huge differences compared to a user of any drug after all alcohol and prescription pills

  2. As a social worker involved in drug rehab, I can say that physical withdrawal from any drug is far easier compared to changing the behavior habits associated with the drug
As in the case of cannabis: the shared use and the social connection created during use. Therefore, a person who wants to give up will have to change his circle of friends. And it's more difficult than any physical detox and any high (cannabis doesn't really have a high because it leaves the body slowly) therefore engaging in physical detox in itself is not effective and most users return within a short time to repeated use and usually more intensively.
