In 1971 Rokavishnikov launched into space with the "Soyuz" 10 in order to connect with the space station "Saliot". But then the two were unable to open the opening through which they were supposed to pass, and returned to Earth two days later. Before landing, the ventilation system began to emit toxic gases, and Rukavishnikov lost consciousness.
In 1974 he returned to space with Soyuz 16, for a joint operation with the American "Apollo". The six-day foray passed safely. In his last launch, in 1979, he went out with Grigori Ivanov, the first Bulgarian in space, in a Soyuz 33 spacecraft. Their goal was to stick to the Saliot 6, but the main engine went out of action and the merger was canceled. Rukavishnikov managed to start the spare engine and returned the spaceship home safely.
