Tel Aviv (February 22, 2011) - The Dan David International Prize, which annually awards three prizes of one million dollars each, for extraordinary achievements, today announced the names of the 2011 prize winners.

The Dan David Prize is named after the businessman and international philanthropist Dan David, and is administered by Tel Aviv University. Prof. Yosef Klifter, president of Tel Aviv University, serves as chairman of the award's board of directors. The winners donate 10% of the prize money to 20 scholarships intended for young researchers at the doctoral and post-doctoral stages.

The winners of the Dan David Award will receive the award in a special and festive ceremony which will also mark a decade since the award was founded. The ceremony will be held on May 15, 2011 at Tel Aviv University in the presence of the President of the country Shimon Peres, and with the participation of the President of Italy, Mr. Giorgio Napolitano, winner of the Dan David Award for 2010 who will come to receive the award in person.

The recipients of the Dan David Prize for 2011, in the dimensions of time - past, present and future, are:

Past - in the field of "evolution"

Prof. Marcus Feldman (School of Medicine, Stanford University) is one of the greatest researchers of evolutionary biology. Uses mathematical models and computer simulations to identify evolutionary processes. Feldman contributed greatly to the understanding of the evolution of complex genetic systems. His research emphasizes the interrelationship between cultural and biological evolution and the far-reaching social consequences this relationship may have.

Present - in the field of "cinema and society"

The Cohen brothers (USA) Joel and Ethan Cohen are an example of a unique partnership in the history of cinema. Absolute control over the work from beginning to end, use of a unique style and the ability to tell a simple story in a complicated, complex and fascinating way characterize their films.

Future - in the field of "aging - facing a challenge"

Prof. Cynthia Cannon (University of California, San Francisco) and Prof. Gary Robcon (Medical School, Harvard University).
Their ground-breaking research that demonstrated that the aging process is controlled through genetic mechanisms and that intervention in these mechanisms is capable of delaying this process opens the door to the hope that life span can be extended and the onset of aging-related diseases can be delayed.

  1. Hi.. For those who are interested in evolution and genetics (DNA, RNA) it may be that Darwin's evolution says that in the development of man there is a "history" of molluscs.. with cuttlefish? As if I'm thinking about these houses, the lid or the shell, which have all kinds of colors, both dark and bright...within the population in terms of genes and evolution.
What I'm trying to ask - this has a background that I know - that the communication within the population of let's say these molluscs/snails is very complex but from the outside it looks like nothing.. the book - Mio classification fungi and biology only as a background. And it's similar. Like mushrooms.. the classification is very aha
It seems a bit boring, I think it's a very specific question.. I read Darwin (and this is proven by many, many proofs that exist and not, for example, proofs of animals that underwent a change from reptiles to winged animals. There is no such archeology. - and it's a shame..)
