An impressive image of a galaxy cluster

The cluster is dominated by one galaxy and surrounded by hundreds of globular clusters and smaller galaxies

galaxy cluster This beautiful image of a collection of distant galaxies - a cluster known as Abell S0740, was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. The cluster is 450 million light years from Earth in the direction of the group Centaurus, a bright constellation in the southern hemisphere . (click on the image to enlarge)

The large bulb in the center is the giant elliptical galaxy ESO 325-G004, which contains about 100 billion stars (about the same as the Milky Way). The galaxy is surrounded by hundreds or perhaps thousands of globular star clusters each containing hundreds of thousands of stars. In addition, the galaxy is surrounded by hundreds of spiral and elliptical galaxies.

The image consists of a number of photographs taken using the advanced survey camera in January 2005 and February 2006. The camera broke down in early 2007 and today only about a third of its power can be used, but as mentioned, the images accumulated over the years still provide a lot of material for scientific articles.

  1. I thought that the Hubble already stopped operating at the beginning of 2007 because they want to keep money for its successor "Webb" named after James Webb, former NASA director "Webb" is 100 times more sensitive than the Hubble and the diameter of its camera is 6.5 compared to the Hubble's 2.4. It will be assigned 3 missions and it will be placed at the l2 point, the second Lardang point
where the gravity of the earth and the sun balance each other

  2. Why write if no one will see it.
But the feeling of the infinite space scares me and sure
There is no other place like this

  3. To Avi Bilovski, Israel conducted an experiment with the Arrow missile, what do you say about it?

  4. Reminds a little of the Milka plain?

Since almost all galaxies are vertical, and if we rotate the image by ninety degrees clockwise, we will get a section of flat space; It remains to be ascertained whether most of the galaxies revolve around ESO 325, in short an amazing photograph.
