Hard work, without money, but with world fame - this is what the Mars Association promises to those who will dedicate themselves to building and staffing a research camp in a remote area.
The destination is of course the red planet Mars. The star seekers hope to recruit volunteers for the expedition that will set out on a journey to a small island in the North Pole, which prides itself on the harsh physical conditions that prevail there, where it will be possible to simulate the conditions on Mars. The trip is expected to take place in July-August on the island of Devon, which is the largest uninhabited island in the world.
CNN reports that in recent years trips to Devon Island have been made by star seekers. They joined an army of researchers, including geologists and biologists from NASA, who have been making the pilgrimage to the desert island since 1997.
The International Association for Mars Explorers stated that their appeal is also to volunteer researchers with a structured research plan, but also to others who want to contribute their strength and time. Applicants must be in good health, between the ages of 18-60. Scientists, engineers and those with field experience will have an advantage as well as reading skills: time can pass very slowly on Devon Island during the summer, as the sun hardly sets for months.
Those lucky enough to pass the screenings and get to fly to Mars will be paid for the entire training period, travel and living expenses.
