A twist on the paradox of information disappearing inside black holes

"The non-vanishing theorem provides a new perspective on the laws governing classical and quantum information. They show that there must be new physics out there," say researchers from England and India

Professor Sam Braunstein from the Department of Computer Science at York University and Dr. Arun Patti, from the Institute of Physics, Sainik Institute, in Hobanswar, India, found that quantum information cannot be "hidden" in ordinary ways, or as Braunstein says, "Quantum information can try to escape but it cannot disappear." .

The results indicate a new and surprising twist in one of the biggest mysteries in black hole research.

Normal (classic) information can disappear in two ways, by moving to another place (like what happens on the Internet), or by hiding, like in coded messages. The famous Vernam cipher invented in 1917, or its relative the one-time ledger cryptography code, are examples of classic information hiding: the information is not in the coded message nor in the secret key with which it can be deciphered - but in the mutual connection (correlation) between the two.

For decades, physicists believed that these two mechanisms could also be applied to quantum information, but Professor Braunstein and Doctor Fati showed that if quantum information disappears from one place, it must be found somewhere else.

In an article published in the latest edition of Physical Review Letters, Braunstein and Pati presented the "non-disappearance theorem" and used it to study black holes, which, according to Einstein's theory of relativity, are described as swallowing everything that approaches them.

In the mid-70s, Stephen Hawking showed that black holes eventually evaporate in a steady stream of uniform radiation that contains no information. But if a black hole disappears completely, where does the information about it go? This question is known as the "black hole radiation paradox". (And as you know, he retracted this claim a few years ago).

Now, Professor Braunstein and Doctor Fati have ruled out the possibility of information escaping from a black hole and have argued that it is hidden in the correlation between Hawking radiation and the internal state of the black hole. Patty and Braunstein's results demonstrate that the black hole information paradox is even more severe than previously believed.

Dr Patty says: "Our results show that one of the two, quantum mechanics or Hawking's analysis, must be wrong, but do not choose which of the two."

Professor Braunstein says: "The non-vanishing theorem provides a new perspective on the laws governing classical and quantum information. They show that there must be new physics out there."

  1. Can't understand the paradox! Do you mean the particles that come out and contain information? And that's how we learn about the history of each star?.. But if the black hole swallows everything then these particles are also swallowed back and mixed with matter and God forbid!! No?
The second thing I did not understand is the assumption that information can disappear in two ways and one of them is by moving to another place as in the case of the Internet!! Sounds very strange! Information does not need to move anywhere, it is simply copied from the source.. moving cables to the target computer does not move it from its place, fact He stayed there!! Maybe the Internet is not a good example?
Surely these company know what they are looking for??

  2. What you have heard is probably an exaggeration, because the theory in question is at an early stage in its development, and the physical and mathematical details of the theory are not yet clear, certainly it does not have quantitative predictions that are not currently known.
However, the idea has been raised that some difference between the arrival time of short-wavelength rays and long-wavelength rays arising from gamma-ray bursts in other galaxies may indicate the existence of discrete space-time, as this theory holds.

  3. Light is not reflected from the black hole because time has stopped.
Since it is not possible to go back in time, there is a finite limit to gravity which is limited by the speed of light.

  4. Maybe the black hole is just the beginning of another universe
i mean all the energy that goes in the black hole and passes the singularity point stays there until the black hole is too dense and then it explodes on the other side and creates
    enothr universe just like ours.
that's explain where our universe came from and
    why it's still spending
    (from the blast)
and explain where all the energy from the black hole goes.
    too crazy?
    : )

  5. I read a year ago about an alternative string theory that is supposed to prove or disprove it this year.
The theory is called a gravitational loop and it describes space-time as a non-continuous space. That is, it is impossible to divide time and space until enough and we are on some kind of network, a grid. The theory connects the quantum theory and gravitation in such a way that gravity is a compression of the network just like a two-dimensional network that is thrown onto it as a heavy object only in three dimensions.
In my opinion, there should be a satellite this year that should check the type of radiation and its product should decide one way or the other.
    Anyone know?

  6. characteristics, and traits of human beings.

Before we use the expression: new physics, with the aim of being as precise as possible in complex universe issues; It will be necessary first of all to be freed from fixations, which characterize the human race, since it began to understand that survival requires endless explorations and investigations into the unknown; And when the human race settles on a theory that is presented as unassailable, after some time, it becomes clear that even if it is presented with all its talent (remember for example: Ptolemy's maps), at most it will survive as a function of some kind of ignorance; And when ignorance was pushed aside (such as from Copernicus and Newton), scientific dilemmas arose, which caused the need to continue researching, until Einstein illustrated a more advanced scientific thinking, which can be summarized: the constant speed of light, masses warping space, the photoelectric effect [emission of electrons from a metal, which originates When electromagnetic radiation (light) hits the surface.], the possibilities inherent in the relationship between energy and mass (E=mc²).

And it is true that the three giants of science mentioned above, jumped the knowledge in science without precedent; The jump, but as knowledge expands, the unknown does not lag behind it, and new dilemmas and issues arise, the solution of which will require ways of thinking of a type that humanity did not know before.

As an introduction: it is not recommended to wait until a meteor lands on the earth, and illustrates the need to establish a uniform policy, for all countries, when the progressive ones mark the direction, and the most talented among them, make the necessary decisions.

Another important constraint: it is recommended to find adequate ways (as a starting basis for solving the problem), to convince leaders like Ahmadinejad, that it is better that they find the right ways, to integrate into the international community, with the aim of promoting life, among other things, also in his own country.

  7. A black hole is a state in which time's relation to our state is such that time has stopped.
Therefore, in the definition of the time relation to us, not every change takes place in the black hole and all the normal information and the quantum information exists in its natural state.
And he will continue to exist like this forever without any change, as long as he does not collide with another black guy.
In the definition of the black hole without a time relation we have lost
The black hole has a lifetime of a millisecond
where all matter and information is scattered into the universe in a tremendous explosion.

  8. To Doron B.. exactly the opposite.
Since information in a black hole is essentially the same as its surface area, it can be concluded that the real universe is two-dimensional (+time), and we are only some kind of three-dimensional hologram, meaning that our entire perception of space-time is fundamentally wrong.

  9. It is so clear that the material is the "arrival" of additional dimensions beyond the three/four dimensions that we perceive and define with the help of the material.

The black hole is the funnel beyond the 3/4 dimension, the question is where is the "white hole" and apparently there is one. The white hole is the same one that creates b/matter.

String theory is in the direction of the other implied physics, it is already a combination of what is called spiritual physics with physical. When the definition of spiritual is "the transition to the physical" and here the scientific community has a bit of a problem with the definitions, because it really relies on a different physics!

By the way, there is no contradiction between the things, the contradiction is in the definitions we place limiting ourselves.

    Doron.
