Another achievement for the members of the Israeli delegation to the Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad.

The Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with the participation of 91 competitors from 16 countries. These are the members of the Israeli delegation trained at the Technion: Noya Dishon, a XNUMXth grade student at the Ort Psagot school, Karmiel; Liora Karni, XNUMXth grade student at Yitzhak Rabin School, Modi'in Maccabim Reut; Nir Cohen, XNUMXth grade student at the Real Gymnasium School, Rishon Lezion; Tal Sasson, XNUMXth grade student at the Gavol school, Hadera; Neta David Eiger, XNUMXth grade student at the Shaked Darka school, Emek Ma'a'ain; And Shawn Hantz, an XNUMXth grade student from Kiryat Shinoch Rabin School, Gan Yavneh.

The winner of the gold medal is Nir Cohen, who won a silver medal in this competition last year. Bronze medals were won by Liora Karni, Shawn Hantz and Tal Sasson.

In addition, it is worth noting that Neta David Eiger from Kibbutz Tirat Zvi did not win a medal despite his impressive success in the theoretical test, and this only because as a Shabbat observant he was prevented from participating in the laboratory test (equal to 40% of the entire exam grade).

The Olympics project for high school students is the result of a joint venture of the Association of Future Scientists (Maimonidis) and the Ministry of Education. The members of the delegation were accompanied by the laboratory engineer Gabriela Halevi (the head of the delegation) and the doctoral student Alex Korontov from the Shulich Faculty of Chemistry and Dagan Ashash, the educational advisor for the Israel Science Teams.

The Mendeleev Olympiad has been held for 56 years, and Israel joined the competition in 2016. According to Prof. Gross, head of youth programs at the Faculty of Chemistry, "the importance of participating in the Mendeleev Olympiad goes beyond the experience and the honor, because it prepares and prepares the students for IChO - the International Chemistry Olympiad, in which 84 countries are participating. We are proud of the students and wish them all similar success, or even more, at the IChO which will take place in less than a month.
