President Peres and the Minister of Science will open the third space conference of the Fisher Institute and the Ilan Ramon Ministry of Science, Culture and Sports

  The conference will be held on January 30 and 31 with the participation of a NASA delegation that includes astronauts and scientists

President Shimon Peres and the Minister of Science, Culture and Sports, MK Galev Majadala, will open the third annual Col. Ilan Ramon International Space Conference of the Fisher Institute, the Ministry of Science and the Israel Space Agency, which will be held on January 30 and 31 at the Air Force in Herzliya.

Guests from abroad will come to the conference: a delegation from NASA that includes 2 astronauts: Sunita Williams and Mike Lopez-Alegria, scientist Najin Cox from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at NASA and Prof. Sir Martin Sweeting, founder of the SSTL center for the development and production of nano, micro and mini satellites. The delegation will come for a week-long visit to Israel, during which, among other things, they will talk to students, pilot course cadets, industry and science people.

General (4 stars) Robert Keller, commander of the US Air Force's Space Command, will also attend the conference, who will speak about the US military's concept of space. Major General Eliezer Shakdi, commander of the Israeli Air Force, will present the Israeli point of view on the issue.

The space conference is an important opportunity for the leading companies in the Israeli defense industry to reveal to the public the most advanced technological inventions.

The Aeronautics company that develops and manufactures sophisticated combat equipment for sea, air and land will present for the first time a Dominator II UAV, an unmanned aircraft capable of identifying targets using advanced technological systems. The model of the plane will be placed at the entrance to the conference.

The Elta plant of the Aerospace Industry will present the Techsar radar satellite, the first Israeli radar satellite, a satellite that will soon be launched into space.

INSA - the Israeli association for small satellites will present the first Israeli nano satellite that will be launched into space in 2009, the first nano satellite will be presented by Dr. Raz Tamir, the CEO of the association.

G. Galish, senior program manager at FUTRON, USA, which deals with predicting future trends in space based on the analysis of statistical models, will address the future trends in space.

The second day of the conference will be dedicated to the contribution of the space to the advancement of education, during which there will be discussions and lectures that will deal with the importance of science education for the advancement of youth to excellence.

Ahead of the conference, the Knesset's Science and Technology Committee will hold a special meeting where they will mark the memorial day for Col. Ilan Ramon, and discuss the issues the space conference will deal with.

• Aeronautics will reveal the Dominator II UAV for the first time at the conference

• The CIELO company will present an innovative gyroscope for space applications, developed in Israel, powered by optical fibers and a laser will be presented for the first time in Israel
• INSA - the Israeli association for nano satellites will present the first Israeli nano satellite
• For the first time, the third stage of the Israeli satellite launcher Shavit - IAI will be presented to the public
• The Science and Technology Committee of the Knesset will mark the memorial day for Col. Ilan Ramon, in a special meeting

About the Fisher Institute
The Fisher Institute for Strategic Air and Space Research was founded in 1999 by the Air Force Association, which brings together the retirees of the permanent service of the Israeli Air Force, with the aim of encouraging and carrying out research and thinking in the field of air and space. The Fisher Institute, located in the Air Force Base in Herzliya, is mainly engaged in conducting research, organizing conferences and seminars, and publishing and operating a database center in the fields of aviation and space that is available to the public.
The institute consists of research centers in various fields, with the Center for Flight Safety Research, the Center for Space and UAV Research, the Center for Air Force Research in Asymmetric Warfare and the Center for Aviation Medicine already active, and additional centers will be opened in the future.   1. Your method will not succeed because the Qassam comes from every point in the Gaza Strip and from a wide range of heights, so casually targeting every possible point from which the Qassam might come is not effective.

  2. Yesterday they showed on TV an extremely fast cannon that shoots thousands of bullets! This is what I meant when I wrote in one of the comments that I would build a system that would overthrow the Kasim within a year! The cannon is, of course, only part of the system components, the other part is locating equipment and knowing details about the Qassem's profile (height of entry into the territory of Israel, time of stay and speed at any given time, etc.) which covers an area as opposed to an interception missile that requires precision... this is more or less the idea that does not require sophistication from the interceptor but from the detection equipment in which Israel is strong!
    Israel is starting to look like a serious space power that will speak loudly in the future.
