Research suggests that dog owners feel a stronger emotional connection and are willing to spend more on their dogs than on their cats, perhaps because of perceptions about the cats' behavior and needs. However, Dr Peter Sandow and his team, who surveyed pet owners from the UK, Austria and Denmark, found that although dogs generally received more care in all countries, the degree of preference varied, suggesting that cultural factors play a role in these attitudes.

Researchers surveyed pet owners in three countries and found that individuals were more attached to dogs than cats. However, the strength of this preference varied significantly across countries.

Do dogs get more care than cats? Research suggests that some pet owners may feel a stronger emotional connection to dogs than to cats, and may be more willing to invest in their care. This could be due to the perception that cats are more independent and require less attention. However, it is worth noting that these studies may not be universally representative and may ignore cultural variation in relationships with pets.

A team of scientists led by Dr. Peter Sandow from the University of Copenhagen decided to investigate this in more detail.

There seems to be no natural limit to the degree of care and connection that people will eventually develop for their cats compared to their dogs," concludes Sandu. "The British have a reputation as a nation of cat lovers, which certainly confirms our research. The Danes still have a long way to go, but in the end they may get there."

Pets around the world

This may be due to a more modern agricultural transition, where most animals are kept at a greater distance, and dogs work much more closely with humans than cats. However, other factors can be involved. For example, people may be more careful about insuring their dogs because dog care is more expensive, or report a stronger emotional connection to dogs because the dogs help them in their daily lives—for example, with exercise.

"Our study examines only three countries located in Central and Western Europe," said Professor Claire Palmer of Texas A&M University, a co-author of the article. "It raises interesting questions about what comparative studies of other countries might find. Maybe there are countries where the level of care and relationship for cats is actually higher than for dogs?"

  1. Idiot research.
I don't understand the insistence on the comparison.
These are two different species and depending on the context.
A dog is much more submissive than its kind because it originally obeys the leader of the pack. Humans love to be worshipped…
A cat is more independent in its personality and individualistic.
Both are charming each in their own way. Both are wonderful in their own ways.
There is no need all the time to deal with who is more successful or faithful or better or whatever!!!
    No need to prioritize.
Love them without comparisons and enough!!!

  2. Cats, these are women who in their previous incarnation cheated on their partners.
Dogs are men who in their previous incarnation cheated on their partners

  3. So wrong!!! I have a cat and I'm ready to do the rule! for him…. They always say that cats are bad and an exploitative animal and more.. but all this is not true!!! Cats are the most sensitive, caring and loyal animal there is!!! There are many times that even more than dogs…. The fact that a dog brings you the ball does not mean that he is so loyal to his owner... but when a cat sees you cry and cuddles up to you, cuddles up to you and kisses you, this is called loyalty! Dogs are also loyal but no more than cats!!!!😢
