Ford has developed a simple technology against forgetting toddlers in a hot car

In order to emphasize the dangers that exist in hot cars, Ford ordered ice sculptures simulating a 12-month-old baby and a Labrador dog, placed them inside a car, set the temperature outside the car to 35 degrees Celsius and within 19 minutes they heated the temperature in the car to 50 degrees Celsius. The ice sculptures melted immediately

Ford announced that it has developed a new technology designed to remind and warn drivers, in a simple way, that they should check the back seats at the end of the trip - this is only if they opened the back doors before starting the trip. In such a case, the technology is activated after the vehicle has stopped and turned off.

Every year children and pets suffer fatal heatstroke (hyperthermia) after being left in vehicles, where temperatures can quickly exceed those outside and in some cases even lead to tragedies.

According to KidsandCars.org a child's body overheats 3-5 times faster than an adult. About 39 deaths on average occur every year in the US as a result of being forgotten in a car, that is, one every nine days. This is also dangerous for pets - a dog, for example, can die in a hot car within six minutes.

Ford's technology enables a visual alert on the vehicle's central display for ten seconds or until cancelled. An audible warning is also heard reminding the driver to check the rear seats before leaving the vehicle. In addition to alerting the presence of a child or animal, the system can also remind drivers if they have placed a valuable item in the back seats, such as a laptop or a handbag that could be at risk of theft if left in the vehicle.

In Europe, the technology is embedded in EcoSport, Fiesta, Focus, Galaxy, Kuga, Mondeo Hybrid, Puma, S-MAX, Transit and Tourneo Connect models. It is also available in the all-electric Mustang Mach-E.
