Prime Minister Yair Lapid today (Wednesday), August 31, 2022, held a discussion regarding the preparation for climate change and crisis and the opportunities that lie in it for the State of Israel, together with Energy Minister Karin Elharer and Environmental Protection Minister Tamar Zandberg, at the Prime Minister's Office in Kirya in Tel Aviv.

In the words of Prime Minister Yair Lapid:

"The purpose of the discussion is to see how we prepare, not only in the face of our own plans, but in the face of the fact that we have to internalize a reality that has changed since the first time we started discussing it, a little over a year ago.

Today we are facing a triangle, each of whose sides is something that should be taken seriously: one side, this is the issue of energy security - knowing that we have enough diverse but also stable sources of energy for winter and summer to sustain industry, air conditioning and transportation. Air conditioning refers to the air conditioner in the classroom of children who need to study.

The other side of the triangle is the price crisis. People are much less tolerant of the climate crisis than a certain level of damage to their pockets, and if we ignore it we are sinning in our role because it is part of the discussion.

The third side is reducing emissions which was and remains our goal and something we need to address as part of the global effort but also as a national-Israeli effort.

Israeli technologies are going to be a key player in our way of dealing with the global climate crisis. We need to turn these opportunities into a lever for our regional dialogue with countries in the Middle East and, of course, for our ability to positively influence the world."

The Prime Minister emphasized that before any further decisions are made regarding the climate, it is necessary to make sure that the decisions made in the past are carried out. In addition, Prime Minister Lapid said that in the shadow of the price increases we must act in order to prepare for climate changes, and fight them in a way that will not exacerbate the burden on the citizens of Israel and even reduce it.

Minister of Energy Karin Elharer: "Defining the transition to renewable energies as a national mission is the order of the hour and is the required step in view of the climate crisis and its effects. In order to deal with the many difficulties and the long times required for the establishment of renewable energy projects and the development of the electricity grid, on September 11.9, we will bring for the approval of the government an important decision that will summarize the potential of the areas for the establishment of renewable energies, will make it easier for renewable energy entrepreneurs by simplifying regulation and exempting from customs duties technologies required for the promotion of renewable energies."

Minister of Environmental Protection, Tamar Zandberg: "The threat of the climate crisis to the citizens of Israel is an existential threat. Just as we are preparing for the war that may come, we must prepare for the consequences of the climate crisis. A green and sustainable economy is the order of the hour, it is the direction the world is going in precisely as an answer to crises and global economic instability, this is an opportunity for Israel to position itself in a leading global position, and above all - to take care of the life, quality of life and prosperity of its citizens. We must ensure that as many of the decisions we made and the actions we promoted in the last government - not only continue, but intensify. I thank the Prime Minister for his deep commitment to the issue. This is the fight for our future."

As part of the discussion, the Ministry of Environmental Protection presented the progress in implementing government decisions on the issue and progress towards the goals, and the Ministry of Energy presented the global energy crisis and its impact on climate policy in Israel and around the world. Also, the National Security Headquarters presented the various opportunities for the State of Israel and regional cooperation in the fields of climate and energy.

The purpose of the government decision that Energy Minister Karin Elharer is expected to make at the government meeting on September 11.09 is to promote renewable energies. These days, the decision and its final sections are in consultation with the relevant government ministries. As part of the decision, a number of issues will be promoted: exploiting the potential of areas for the establishment of renewable energies, improving regulatory processes and removing barriers facing renewable energy entrepreneurs, as well as exemption from customs duties on essential technologies for the promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff, the Chief of Staff, the Chief of Staff, the Political Advisor, the Secretary of the Government, the Director General of the Prime Minister's Office, the Director General of the Ministry of Energy, the Director General of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and other officials.

  1. If you love people, you should also care about their future and don't listen to the false predictions of climate deniers. The crisis itself is more serious and expensive than any solution to contain it.
    my father

  2. Who is going to pay for the green electricity that costs much more than normal electricity.
In the end, the bill falls on the citizens and there will be elderly people who will not be heated in the winter and will not be connected in the summer due to the electricity prices.
In weak populations it will be expensive electricity or medicine.
It is worth thinking about this point as well.

  3. Is there a duty on solar collector components? delusional
Is there bureaucracy in installing private receivers? Illusory squared.

  4. According to Lapid: "Before further decisions are made regarding the climate, it is necessary to make sure that the decisions made in the past are carried out." The man should be a stand-up comedian.
