A joint test of the Israeli and American security systems will soon be held in the US, during which the Arrow anti-missile missile will try for the first time to intercept a Russian-made Scud missile.
The experiment, which was already agreed upon about two years ago, will take place at a test field belonging to the US Department of Defense. The USA purchased Scud missiles for testing purposes - and now the Arrow will face a real test of dealing with this missile. However, the threats facing it in the Middle East are slightly different, as Arab armies usually have improved versions of the Scud.
The "Wall" administration in the Ministry of Defense and Air Force representatives will participate in the experiment, along with the Americans, who financed a large part of the Arrow project. The Arrow system has been operational for several years and today two of its batteries are deployed in the center of the country.
In the past, several successful experiments have already been done, in which the arrow intercepted smaller missiles. In the last test, in December 2003, the Arrow intercepted a "Black Anchor" missile manufactured by Rafael. The defense establishment sees the test as another test of the Israeli missile's capability, however they point out that even based on the capability that has been proven so far, the Israeli Authority has an adequate response to the firing of surface-to-surface missiles against it from enemy countries.
