Tonight there is a chance to see a man-made meteor

Something interesting in the sky tonight. The probability that you will catch it is low, but if it happens - it can be quite impressive * This is a 2-ton battery installation that was detached from the International Space Station

In 2021, a battery case weighing 2 tons was released from the International Space Station and has since been in free fall to Earth, the friction of the atmosphere slowing them down and causing them to come closer to us.

At the moment it is estimated that entry into the atmosphere will happen around 7pm, but the accuracy is at the level of half a day so it could happen roughly anywhere between Australia and central Russia.

If this happens while they pass in our areas there are two relevant time windows: at 13:05, a passage just overhead from south to north. At 19:05 a low pass in the northeast direction. It can happen almost anywhere along the way.

There is really no risk from this fall, all the material there should burn in the atmosphere and disintegrate in the fall at a tremendous speed. If they see the entrance - it will be impressive and is not expected to last more than 20 seconds.
