Nobel and Israel - not to disturb the scientists

The award is not a certificate of excellence - not for the country where they live in the past or in the present, nor for the institution where they studied in the past or work in the present.

The Nobel Prize is personal. It is given to people for personal achievements achieved through the power of their intellect, their faith, their art or the lofty moral values that they served in faith. The award is not a certificate of excellence - not for the country in which they live in the past or in the present, nor for the institution where they studied in the past or work in the present.

This is why the number of Nobel laureates who stand up for a nation or country, or the number of laureates who are professors at any university, is only a secondary measure of the intellectual quality and creative spirit of groups, institutions or countries. Although quite a few people mistakenly see this number as an important benchmark for group spiritual ability. There are also those whose hearts are filled with personal, institutional or national pride by being part of a group that includes Nobel laureates, although there is nothing wrong with that, of course.

Despite the absolute personal dimension of winning this badge of distinction, there is still something about the award that indicates the society from which the recipient of the award grew. Of course, no one knows how to prepare or equip a human mind for the spiritual abilities that entitle their owners to this award. However, according to a universal physical law known as the second law of thermodynamics, we know that no knowledge is necessary to destroy complex systems such as such abilities inherent in humans. Any company, institution or country can without any difficulty prevent people with such abilities from putting them into action. It is true that Kohelat Ben David said (Chapter XNUMX, Verse XNUMX): "There is no person who is ruler of the spirit to imprison the spirit", but humans, especially those called "senior state personalities", have enough power to prevent the release of the spirit, let alone an entire government. In the direction that leads to winning the Nobel Prize.

David Gross, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, and Aharon Chachanover and Abraham Hershko, winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, all took their first big steps in the field of science at the research universities in Israel in the 60s. From the fact that they won the prize, it is clear that the Israeli universities at that time at least did not harm the spiritual ability of these people during the critical years of their scientific development. All this was one generation before the current Israeli government, and the high officials of the Ministry of Finance, began to actively intervene in the conduct of academic life in the country, and before the "streamlining" that they are now forcefully imposing on research universities in Israel. The Minister of Education, Limor Livnat, has just expressed hope and conviction that in the coming years there will be more Nobel Prize wins by Israeli scientists. In view of the blatant interference of completely foreign forces in the management of research universities in Israel, and in light of the unquestionable validity of the second law of thermodynamics, it is permissible to question the realization of this hope.
