At the Rona Ramon space education conference held this week, 31.1.24 at the Air Force Base in Herzliya, which is held as part of the events of Israel Space Week 2024, which is led by the Israel Space Agency in the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, it was announced that the SpaceIL association won the tender to manage the HORIZON community, a community of educators and leaders Space in Israel. As part of the award, the association will manage the activities of the community during the coming year, 2024, thereby replacing the Ramon Foundation, which has managed the community for the past 5 years.

The Israel Space Agency in the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology works to promote, develop and leverage civilian space activity in Israel, and among other things, in cultivating a professional reserve for Israeli space activity. As part of the training of human capital, the agency leads the HORIZON community, which serves as a common framework for educators in Israel in formal and informal education, engineers from the space industry, academics and people who are passionate about space education, who want to lead a change in the field of space education in Israel and make it accessible to children and the general public.

The community, which includes about 250 members, is at the forefront of educational activities in the field of space in Israel. As part of the community's activities, a variety of events, workshops, hackathons and content projects are held that expose children and youth throughout the country to the world of space in an experiential and intriguing way alongside the current activities. In addition, the members of the community receive diverse tools for their professional advancement and produce groundbreaking innovative initiatives in the field and are partners in the strategic thinking led by the Space Agency in the field of space accessibility.

The community's activities expose hundreds of thousands of children to the field of space every year. The purpose of the SpaceIL association is to continue to develop the activity and impact of the community among the future generation in Israel and to reveal the exciting opportunities inherent in space studies, science, engineering and entrepreneurship.

Since the outbreak of the war, the association's volunteers, together with the Horizon community of the Israel Space Agency, have come to evacuee centers and delivered lectures and voluntary space experiences. In light of the situation, the association plans to allocate dedicated community activities during the year for the benefit of the southern and northern families who were evacuated from their homes.

According to Shimon Sharid, CEO of the association SpaceIL: "We thank the Israel Space Agency at the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology for expanding the partnership with us. SpaceIL works to promote science and scientific education and our vision, to inspire and bring the young generation together with the world of space, is in line with the actions of the Horizon community. We are happy to bring our experience and knowledge to the fore and are proud to lead the community that set its flag to make the field of space accessible to many young people in Israel."

According to Uri Oron, director of the Israeli Space Agency: "Israel is an innovation and space power that draws its strength from the students of today, they are the scientists and engineers of tomorrow. The Horizon community of the Israel Space Agency is engaged in promoting the field of space education and also during this period was mobilized to help the children of the north and south who were evacuated from their homes and activated space activities in the hotels to which they were evacuated throughout the country. We congratulate the SpaceIL association for winning the tender and are sure that the partnership with it will strengthen the community's activities and also in this complex period will allow millions of children to take part in the various activities, to be inspired and to learn about the opportunities that space creates."
