The four students, who were trained and trained in the last few months at the Shulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion, are Itai Tzviali, a XNUMXth grade student from the XNUMXth City School in Haifa; Nadav Ganoser, XNUMXth grade student from Rabin High School (Urban XNUMXnd) in Modi'in; Ron Solan, a XNUMXth grade student from Rishonim High School in Herzliya; And Roni Arnzon, a XNUMXth grade student from Ort Alon High School in Nazareth Illit.

The International Chemistry Olympiad, which has been held for the 47th year, is the oldest of the international science Olympiads for high school students. This year the Olympics were held in the city of Baku in Azerbaijan, with the participation of 300 students from seventy-five countries. The academic challenge that the students faced in the competition included a theoretical test and a laboratory experiment, during which the students were required to synthesize a substance, conduct a kinetic follow-up after a chemical reaction and identify an unknown substance based on chemical reactions.

The delegation was accompanied and trained by Professor Zeev Gross from the Shulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion, who was the academic responsible, Dr. Izna Nigel-Ettinger as the head coach and Mira Katz, project manager at the faculty. The team members also received a lot of assistance from faculty members, doctoral students and laboratory engineers at the Shulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion. "The material on which the team members were tested was at a very high level, many steps beyond what is taught in high schools in Israel," says Professor Gross. "The four members of the Israeli team are the most outstanding among the thousands of students who participated in the selection process. The students went through an intensive preparation camp to bring them to the desired level."

"For our joy, three members of the delegation - Itai, Nadav and Ron - won bronze medals, which is a great pride." "It was a very special experience," concluded the student Nadav Gnosar, who is now making his way back to Israel, "We met students from all over the world. We prepared and studied a lot for the competition, in order to reach the required high level. I participated in the Olympics last year as well and I am happy that this year I won a bronze medal. "
