Tel Aviv University is establishing a new framework for cyber studies, which will focus on a variety of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary aspects concerning the cyber world. The cyber studies will take place in two channels: the first channel, the scientific-technological channel, where specializations will take place in the electrical-computer engineering program, in computer science studies, and in the information technology track in the industrial engineering and management program. The second channel, the general channel, in which cyber studies will be integrated as a division, which will be offered in the first phase as part of the bachelor's degree programs in humanities, social sciences and law.

The establishment of the new program will be announced tomorrow by the president of the university, Prof. Yosef Klefter, at the international cyber conference of the Yuval Neman workshop for science, technology and security, which will be held in cooperation with the National Cyber Headquarters. The conference will be held at Tel Aviv University in the presence of the President of the State, Mr. Shimon Peres.

According to Prof. Yaron Oz, Dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences at Tel Aviv University, the program is designed to leverage the interdisciplinary advantage of Tel Aviv University - and its broad academic infrastructure in the fields of computer science, engineering, humanities, social sciences, management and law.

Starting from the coming academic year, students of the humanities, society, law, as well as exact sciences and engineering will be able to share common classes, where topics of cyber and cyber warfare will be discussed. Thus, for example, the studies will focus on the legal aspect of the field in the process in which cyber law emerges, in order to catch up with the gap that currently exists in the view of this field, compared to the laws of war on land or at sea, which are covered within the framework of the Geneva Convention and international law. The program will also allow students from the fields of humanities, society and law to be exposed to the more technical aspects of the field: computer work, network protocols, encryption and so on. Thus, a lawyer who deals with cyber law will also have a background in the technological aspects of the field.

The unit will offer courses in the domain of networks, courses in data mining, signal processing, cyber warfare - as well as courses such as an introduction to the history of cyber culture, historical aspects, managerial aspects, analysis and economic aspects of the cyber world, privacy issues in the digital world, uses within the social sciences. The students of the program will also participate in a unique cyber workshop that will be held on an annual basis, where a variety of cyber issues will be discussed, including security issues, management theory, modern economics, etc.
