The Technion is establishing the first research MRI center of its kind in the north of the country

According to the center's academic director, Dr. Moti Freiman from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, "Many researchers at the Technion have been waiting for the arrival of this essential research tool, as until now they have relied on other MRI centers in Israel to conduct their research. The device will be available to researchers from a wide range of fields at the Technion and the surrounding area and will also be used by industry parties who wish to deepen their ability in research and development through MRI"

A research MRI device made by Siemens was recently installed at the Technion. This is the first research MRI device of its kind in the north of the country and it will operate within the framework May-Bloom-Dahl Center for Human Research inMRI, which will cover 200 square meters in the MLA building at the Technion. The new center operated by the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering will be used by researchers, professors and students for interdisciplinary research in a number of scientific and medical fields, as part of the Technion's commitment to scientific excellence and the promotion of human health. The center's services will also be available to external parties who will be able to conduct, for a fee, MRI studies.

MRI is a very important technology for structural and functional imaging of internal tissues and organs, including the brain, and it is non-invasive and does not involve exposure to ionizing radiation. Director of the center, Dr. Dafna Link-Sorni from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, explains that "MRI research is interdisciplinary research, involving various fields of engineering (electricity, computers, machines, materials, etc.) and sciences (physics, chemistry, biology) and, of course, medical research."

According to The academic director of the centerDr. Moti Freeman from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, "Many researchers at the Technion have been waiting for the arrival of this essential research tool, as until now they have relied on other MRI centers in Israel to conduct their research. The device will be available to researchers from a wide range of fields at the Technion and the surrounding area and will also be used by industry parties seeking to deepen their ability in research and development using MRI."

According to Dr. Freeman, "The uniqueness of the new center is that it is located in the Faculty of Engineering, with the understanding that this fact will significantly promote innovation at the forefront of research and technology and the development of solutions to important clinical problems. There is no doubt that Siemens is happy about bringing the device here, since many researchers at the Technion may also propose significant improvements in its performance as part of their research."

The beginning of the activity of the new center, which is expected later this year, is the result of an ongoing activity of defining goals and mobilizing resources led by the Technion's management together with Technion researchers Prof. Shulamit Levenberg, former Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Moti Freiman and Dr. Firas Moassi From the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Tzipi Horowitz-Kraus from the Faculty of Education for Science and Technology and Dr. Yoad Kenneth from the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management. This center will be the first human research MRI center of its kind in the north of the country, and it is also suitable for children to allow their development to be studied. For this purpose, an MRI-dummy device will also be placed in the center, i.e. a device that simulates for the subject the real test environment, including noise, vibration, lighting and more, so that the subject can get used to this environment gradually and without fear.
