The board of trustees that met this week at the Technion confirmed the Technion's executive board's election of the current president, Prof. Uri Sion, for another four-year term. Prof. Sion's second term will begin on October 1, 2023 and end on September 30, 2027. The choice was made on the recommendation of the President Search Committee and the Academic Plenum. Prof. Sivan's second term will begin on the Technion's 100th anniversary and will be dedicated to further establishing the Technion as a leading international research university at the forefront of global research.

"I thank the members of the Board of Trustees, the Executive Committee, the President Search Committee and the Academic Plenum for the trust they placed in me," he said Prof. Sion. "I see the position of president of the Technion as a great privilege, mission and responsibility to continue the legacy of my predecessors in the development of the Technion for the sake of the State of Israel and humanity. One hundred years after the opening of the first class, we look back with pride at the achievements recorded by this magnificent institution from its inception until today - and look forward out of deep commitment and faith in the Technion's power to continue to lead society and the State of Israel to prosperity and well-being."

In 1991, Prof. Sion joined the faculty of physics at the Technion after training at the IBM research laboratories in New York and he heads the Bartholo Badler Chair. He is one of the pioneers of nanotechnology research in the State of Israel, and his research over the years spanned a wide range of topics - from quantum mechanics in small electronic systems, through the harnessing of biology to the construction of nanometric electronic devices, and in recent years he has been engaged in researching the structure of water near biological surfaces and molecules. His scientific achievements were recognized with many awards and some of the results of his research were applied in industry.

Since assuming his position in 2019, Prof. Sivan has been working to advance the Technion on several levels, including expanding interdisciplinary research, repositioning the Technion and strengthening the relationship between academia and industry, promoting teaching, strengthening diversity and inclusion, and continuing to develop the campus.
