The NASA delegation and the President of the country, Shimon Peres, will meet today, Wednesday January 30, 08, with the students of the School of Engineering from Herzliya, as part of the third Ilan Ramon Space Conference of the Fisher Institute and the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sports. During the meeting, the students will present one of the robots that competed in last year's competition.

This year's robotics competition, sponsored by Microsoft, is part of the "Technology Cadets" project, an initiative created by the President of the country, Mr. Shimon Peres, and is one of the main events of the 60th anniversary celebrations for the State of Israel.

NASA has been supporting the projects of the global FIRST association for many years. NASA sponsors regional competitions held by FIRST and supports new teams every year. Also, its people invest many hours in volunteering as part of various FIRST events held throughout the USA. A representative from NASA even sits on FIRST's advisory board.

FIRST Israel activities are carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Technion, and with the support of UMI, GM, the Kahn Foundation, the Rashi Foundation and other donors from abroad. In addition, many Israeli companies and business entities support the schools and groups participating in the competitions, both by providing direct sponsorship and by providing training and technical support provided voluntarily by their employees.

The organization FIRST - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (www.firstisrael.org.il) is a non-profit organization operating in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Great Britain and Israel. The organization deals with instilling motivation and accessibility to technology and science studies among teenagers through robotics.
